We are all faced with a new (temporary) reality of contagious disease and social isolation. The COVID-19 virus pandemic will continue for a while longer, and along with it, Shelter in Place and social distancing.

So, let鈥檚 practice a good habit that can be considered a 鈥渟ocial contagion鈥 that directly combats this forced isolation. This practice connects you positively with others and will boost your wellbeing. It鈥檚 simple but extremely powerful:

  • Each day write one email or text message to anyone you appreciate.

  • The message should praise or thank them for absolutely anything鈥攂ig or small.

  • Describe what you appreciate about them in only two or three sentences. It should take only a couple of minutes.

  • Do this every day and pick a different person each day.

  • It can be family, friends, or your 西瓜视频 family!

  • Do it every day, once per day.

Research shows that in only three days, you will experience an increase in happiness! (And you can internally boast that you are, in fact, the kind of person who does this kind of thing!)

In 21 days, you will be in the top 5% worldwide in your social connection score! Social connection in positive psychology is the breadth, depth, and meaning of your social relationships.

Those with higher social connection scores live longer. Social connection is as powerful in life expectancy as the impact of diabetes and heart disease!
